Round 7 was dominated by two programs as the final push to the playoffs begin.
The Eagles & Hogs continue to cement their claims as the teams to catch across the Juniors & Seniors, while others continue to desperately fight to punch their ticket to the postseason.
After 7 rounds there are still two teams with very real chances of not only achieving perfection with an undefeated season, but one win away from securing a spot in their respective championship game. While others look to finish the season strong to book their ticket to Week 1 of the Playoffs.
Juniors: Adelaide University Hogs 4-2 defeat Port Adelade Spartans 0-6
Final Score: 48 – 0
You don’t want to play the Adeliade University Hogs when they are coming off a loss, and unfortunately for the Spartans they have done so twice.
The Hogs have lost two games this season, and amazingly after each of those losses they have come out the next week scored 25+ points and shutout their opponents. In Round 3 they lost to the Eagles then came out and beat the Spartans 27- 0 the following round. After last week's loss to the Chiefs the Hogs come out and dismantle the Spartans 48-0.
The Hogs have almost certainly assured themselves second spot on the ladder, while the Spartans at this late stage won’t be takin part in playoff action
Seniors: Adelaide University Hogs 6-0 defeat Port Adelade Spartans 1-5
Final Score: 27 – 6
Another win for the Hogs as they keep their undefeated season alive. What this team is doing this year is truly special, and their dominance cannot be understated.
In 6 games the Hogs are averaging 30 points per game on offence, and on defence only allowing a staggering 3.3 points per game to the opposition. They haven’t conceded more than 8 points and have had 3 shutouts. It’s dominance unlike anything seen before. It is going to take an almighty effort to stop this team from lifting the trophy at the end of the year, as they are undoubtedly the current 1 seed.
The Spartans fall to 1-5, but with the Chiefs yet to win a game and unfortunately having to forfeit their Round 7 game, the Spartans are still alive for the 3rd seed in the playoffs.
Juniors: UniSA Eagles 6-0 defeat South City Chiefs 2-4
Final Score: 22 - 0
In last season's Junior State Championship game, the Chiefs broke the hearts of the Eagles after beating them in double overtime to hand them their first loss of the year. Since then, the Eagles have outscored the Chiefs 70-6 and have won all three matchups this season. Revenge is the ultimate motivator and as this Eagles team looks to go unbeaten in the regular season again, rest assured they are as focused as they have ever been to ensure that they finish the season unbeaten but this time they are the ones listing the trophy.
For the defending champions it has been an up and down season with some moments of their championship DNA rising to the top but unfortunately, they have been unable to string wins together and find any sort of rhythm. However, with the Spartans falling to 0-6, it’s the Chiefs who barring a late resurgence from the Spartans are in the box seat for the 3rd spot.
Seniors: UniSA Eagles 5-1 defeat South City Chiefs 0-6
Final Score: 21 – 0 (Forfeit)
Unfortunately, the Chiefs who have battled all season long forfeited this game.
