From the Sidelines with Spyro - Round 3 Review

ree

It was a wet and wild Round 3 at the Old Collegians Rugby Club, as the rain came down the competition heated up. The conditions may have been slippery, but that didn’t stop the fast-paced action from unfolding across the day.

The early slate of games featured four undefeated programs across both the Juniors and Seniors, each determined to protect their perfect records.

Meanwhile the afternoon slate saw four sides looking to finally break through and claim their first win of the season.

All the Round 3 action covered right here in the third edition of From the Sidelines with Spyro.

Juniors: UniSA Eagles 3-0 defeat Adelaide University Hogs 2- 1

Final Score: 20-0

Round 3 started with a battle between two undefeated teams, and it was the UniSA Eagles who prevailed over the Hogs to maintain their perfect start to the year. It was a performance that cements this Eagles sides chances of ending their year as champions. Winning is one thing, but shutting out a team coming in at 2-0 and has totalled 40 points across both games is something truly impressive and special. There is a ‘Team of Destiny’ feeling around this team.

For the Adelaide University Hogs, whilst it was not the result or performance they were looking for, and will no doubt feel disappointed they are still sitting comfortably at 2-1. With a very high ceiling, and room for improvement.

Seniors: Adelaide University Hogs 3-0 defeat  UniSA Eagles 2-1

Final Score: 29-6

The second of our battle to remain undefeated reversed the result from the Juniors. As it was the Adelaide University Hogs putting an end to the Eagles perfect start. Not much more can be said about the Hogs this season. They are the defending champions averaging a staggering 34 points per game, and don’t look like slowing down anytime soon. They are the hunted, but they are the ones doing all the hunting to start the season. To be crowned champions you’re going to have to go through the Hogs.

Nothing can be taken away from the Eagles they just ran into a powerhouse that is firing on all cylinders. This side is as professional and driven as they come, and there is no doubt this loss will only fuel and motivate them to bounce back next week.

Juniors: South City Chiefs 1- 2 defeat Port Adelade Spartans 0-3

Final Score: 30-0

After last week’s heartbreaking 2-point loss the reigning Junior State Champions picked up their first win of the season in dominating fashion. It was a complete performance, putting up 30 whilst shutting their opponent out.  A reminder was sent out to all Junior teams not to forget about the reigning, defending five-time champion Chiefs.

The Spartans fall to 0-3, and it cannot be understated how important the next few weeks are for them as they try to salvage their season and avoid a drop to 0-4.

Seniors: Port Adelade Spartans 1-2 defeat South City Chiefs 0-3

Final Score: 29-6

The day wrapped up with the Port Adelaide Spartans breaking through for their first win of the season. Their offence looked great putting up their biggest total of the season so far, whilst their defense fought hard in tough and trying conditions.

For the Chiefs although it is another loss falling to 0-3, they should be proud that they were finally able to put up their first points of the year. It has been an extremely difficult start in their return to the Seniors program, but the Chiefs showed that even in the toughest conditions perseverance always pays off.
