Football is back — and we’re uncorking the season in the Barossa!

The 2025 season kicks off with a bang in the Barossa Valley.

On Saturday the 11th of October, American Football SA is hitting the road and heading to the stunning Barossa Valley. Bringing with it a day packed with hard-hitting action, electrifying energy, and explosive entertainment. This promises to be one of the biggest days this league has ever seen.

8 teams across both Junior and Senior programs will be looking to leave the Valley with a 1 in their win column, but only 4 can accomplish the perfect start to their 2025 campaign.

As if the day couldn’t get any bigger, both programs will be headlined by 24/25 Grand Final rematches.

Juniors:

Chiefs v Eagles – 11:00am (24/25 Junior State Championship Rematch)

The day kicks off with fireworks, as we are treated to the highly anticipated rematch of last season's Junior State Championship. An instant classic that took double overtime to declare a champion.

The Chiefs were the victors on this occasion, claiming a historic 5^th Championship in a row. Now they are laser focused on defending their championship with a win.

For the Eagles it is all about seeking revenge on the Chiefs who put an end to their undefeated season. After being so close to the perfect season, the Eagles would love nothing more than to take an early win off the reigning champions.

All eyes will be on this one.

Hogs v Spartans – 4:00pm

The Hogs & Spartans take the field, both looking to improve on their previous seasons. The Hogs finished the year 1-8, while the Spartans ended their season 2-1-6. The Spartans also took the season series 2 games to 1 over the Hogs.

But that was last year, and a new season brings with it new opportunities. 

Seniors:

Hogs v Spartans – 6:00pm (24/25 Great Southern Bowl Rematch)

The Hogs and Spartans square off in a rematch of the 24/25 Great Southern Bowl—a game that saw the Hogs deliver a commanding 49-0 shutout to secure the three-peat.

For the Hogs, the mission is simple: maintain their dominance. Fresh off a championship season, they look toward business as usual. On the other side of the field, the Spartans will head to the Valley with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove with the sting of last season's blowout loss still fresh in their minds.

Will the Hogs reaffirm their status as league heavyweights? Or will the Spartans flip the script?

Chiefs vs Eagles – 1:00pm

A matchup in which both teams have high hopes for the season ahead.

The Eagles look to improve on their 24/25 campaign that saw them finish 1-7. It goes without saying that a strong showing and adding an early 1 into the win column after opening round would be a much-needed boost for them. After being absent from the seniors program last year, The Chiefs have their eyes set on playing spoiler and kicking their Senior Program off with a win.

A matchup with a lot on the line for both teams.
